The stars of old TV favourite Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air have paid tribute to James Avery, who has passed away from complications related to open heart surgery.

Avery played Phillip Banks in the Will Smith-starring sitcom, and was only 65 when he died earlier this week.

Tyra Banks posted on Twitter:

“Sending condolences to the family of James Avery, “Uncle Phil” of the Fresh Prince. I’ll always remember how warm he was to me on set.”

Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith said:

“James Avery who we all lovingly know as Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince has passed. Our condolences to aunt Florence [his mother], Miss Barbara [his wife] and all those who loved him. Rest in peace James.”

Furthermore, Tatyana Ali posted:

“James was my teacher my protector & the most magnificent actor. We’re feeling his loss very deeply. He’ll always be apart of me #JamesAvery”.

A tweet attributed to Will Smith himself had been shared virally on Twitter, but it has now been exposed as a fake.
