Jahmene Douglas has entered at No1 with his very first album. The X Factor runner-up released Love Never Fails as his debut collection on July 22, and it notched up enough sales over the course of the week to make an appearance at the very top of the rankings.

The collection of soul and gospel covers features renditions of Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, Sia’s ‘Titanium’ and Emeli Sande’s ‘Next To Me’. It also boasts duets with Stevie Wonder and X Factor mentor Nicole Scherzinger.jahmenepic

Jahmene’s arrival pushes Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines down to No2 and Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail to No3. Selena Gomez’s Stars Dance album makes its debut at No14.

Over on the singles chart, Avicii remains at No1 – forcing One Direction’s ambitiously-titled ‘Best Song Ever’ to settle for No2. The DJ sold another 155,000 copies of ‘Wake Me Up’ this week – beating Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan’s latest by a margin of two to one.

It’s worse news, though, for Nina Nesbitt, Diana Vickers and Professor Green. Nesbitt’s new single ‘Way In The World’ makes a disappointing arrival at No55, Vickers returns with ‘Cinderella’ at a poor No76, and the Prof staggers to No93 with ‘Are You Getting Enough?’.

This week Eliza Doolittle will be hoping to dethrone Avicii with her new track ‘Big When I Was Little’.
