Lady Gaga has shot straight to the summit of the UK iTunes chart with her latest tune.

‘Do What U Want’ is taken from her forthcoming record ARTPOP, but is not being touted as an official single – despite being used on the latest adverts for a leading headphone brand.

The song was released at midnight on Tuesday October 22 and shot straight to No1 on the live digital rankings, but has already been replaced by Lorde’s ‘Royals’.

Even if it holds at No2, however, ‘Do What U Want’, featuring R Kelly, could become Gaga’s highest-charting single for several years; eclipsing her last official single ‘Applause’, which was released in August.

ARTPOP, the album from which ‘Do What U Want’ and ‘Applause’ are both lifted, is out on November 11. The record’s next official single, ‘Venus’, will debut at the end of this week. Gaga will then perform it on this Sunday’s X Factor results show.
