Popstars Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen have reportedly lost a copyright infringement court case and will now have to cough up $800,000 in damages.

The double-act were sued by Ally Burnett, who claimed their hit ‘Good Time’ was a rip-off of her own tune ‘Ah, It’s A Love Song’.

The trial ended with a judge deciding that the similarities are strong enough to warrant the lawsuit, and now the two musicians will have to pay Burnett via their royalties company BMI.

‘Ah, It’s A Love Song’ was recorded in 2010, two years before Owl City and Jepsen released their own smash, which became an airplay and sales hit in the summer of 2012, months after Jepsen’s breakout smash ‘Call Me Maybe’.

Even that song has also been subject to a copyright case, after Ukrainian singer Aza attempted to sue her. However, the lawsuit was soon dropped.
