They may have split many, many years ago – but Britney Spears has named ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake as one of her musical inspirations.
The popstar, who launched her Vegas residency Piece Of Me on December 27 to mostly positive reviews, praised the way the ‘Mirrors’ singer is reinventing himself musically.
She told USA Today:
“This generation is hungry for new sounds. Bruno Mars is so different and fresh, and Justin Timberlake is, too. It’s inspiring for me, and it makes people eager to listen to music, which helps everyone.”

However, the superstar lamented the state of the music industry right now – saying that the digital age has spoiled how special it used to be to go out and purchase an actual CD.
“We’re too smart for our own good,” she said. “We’re at the point where the simplicity of buying a CD and the specialness has gone.
“I think it’s a shame. The whole process of buying a record was so special.”
