Singer Kate Nash has praised Lily Allen’s return to music, hailing her “honesty and humour”. Outspoken star Lily returned to the industry last month with her new single ‘Hard Out Here’, as well as her cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ for the John Lewis Christmas adverts.
Nash, whose vocals have often been compared to Lily’s, told Digital Spy:
“I think it’s good to have someone like Lily back.
“She’s very opinionated and she doesn’t hold back for anyone, which I really like. Having her honesty and humour back in pop music is a really good thing.”
The singer also said she can understand why a lot of female musicians end up compromising their image to sell more records.
“Maybe some people have [forgotten about the music],” she said. “I wouldn’t judge somebody for doing something because they felt like they had to because it is a difficult industry to navigate through.
“There’s a lot of pressure on everyone to meet certain targets. I personally am too stubborn and too set in my ways to ever succumb to those kind of things, but I can understand if somebody did.”
