Ten-year-old band Keane have admitted that it feels ‘strange’ to be splitting up after a decade in the business. The group’s first hit ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ became a smash back in 2003, but last month they revealed that their new Greatest Hits collection would be their last work as a band.
Drummer Richard Hughes lamented to Digital Spy:
“Going forward, we don’t have any plans for the next thing. Tom’s been talking about doing a solo record for many years. I think he might do that next year. After that, I really don’t know what the future holds.
“It’s quite strange in that respect. We’re not planning any massive touring around this album. We’re doing a cinema streaming gig from Berlin that sounds fun, but apart from that there’s nothing massive in the diary.”
On the possibility of reuniting in the future, he explained: “Tom writes songs whether he likes it or not – it’s impossible to stop him.
“I’m sure he’ll carry on doing that and if there’s a point where we want to make another record then we’ll do it. At the moment, we don’t know what we’re going to do next.”
