Lady Gaga has slammed the media for pitting her against Katy Perry when the stars’ albums were released at similar times.
The singer released her third LP ARTPOP weeks after Perry unveiled Prism, with the latter selling slightly better.
Speaking in her SXSW keynote speech today, Gaga said:
“I don’t know what the f**k all I have to do with Katy Perry. My music is completely different.
“We’ve sold over 2.5 million copies of ARTPOP all over the world. I’m sorry I didn’t sell a million records the first week, but I have before!”
She continued:
“I’m very proud of what we did, and we sold as much as everybody else.
“[It just seems like] when it comes to me, everybody forgets where the music business is now.”
The star went on to say that there are more songs from the ARTPOP era waiting to be released.
“I have a whole second act of ARTPOP,” she teased. “There are many volumes of work over a long period of time that’ve just not been released to the public.”
