Matt Cardle has reacted to the sales figures of James Arthur’s debut album, after the pair clashed repeatedly over the last year.
Arthur had publicly slated Cardle on multiple occasions, beginning with when the 2012 X Factor winner claimed his predecessors have not “made real albums” and “haven’t sold records”.
However, his self-titled first collection – released last week – opened to sales of 63,996; slightly lower than the 70,896 achieved by Cardle’s Letters back in 2011.
“Well, there you go,” Cardle told Digital Spy. “Having slagged me and my career off for a year now, the numbers are in and they speak for themselves.
“For some reason, he has repeatedly tried to humiliate me publicly and cement the perception that I have failed, but I’ve just celebrated the release of my third top 20 album in as many years, two of which I released independently. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved.”
Matt refused to get back into a dirty fight, and insisted: “Like I initially said 12 months ago, I wish him well, I think he is talented and I hope he is still around in 3 years time.”
Cardle’s recent album Porcelain charted at No11.
