The world has been mourning acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died on February 2 in New York. The 46-year-old was found unresponsive in his apartment after losing an ongoing struggle with a drug addiction.
He reportedly had only 7 days of shooting left for the remainder of The Hunger Games franchise, in which he played Plutarch Heavensbee – and the studio, Lionsgate, have now issued a statement.
“Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation,” they said. “We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family.”
The statement adds:
“Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”
It is thought that the father-of-three’s remaining scenes will be rewritten.
Sam Claflin, who starred alongside him in the movies, wrote on Twitter:
“PSH – I am genuinely shocked, saddened and speechless. A truly wonderful man, with a magical touch. My hero. Thoughts are with his family.”
