Rebecca Ferguson has revealed that her record label suggested she took some time off while she was working on her new album – because she had become depressed.
The mother-of-two was left hurt by several negative people in her life, but decided to channel it into her music rather than wait until she felt better.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said:
“I was depressed and I remember turning to my label and saying that I am not sure whether I should do this album.
“They turned to me and said ‘Becks, take a couple of months off,’ but in the end I just said no.”
She recalled:
“I need to create an album for when you’re feeling as bad as I am feeling. Hopefully I have created the kind of music to pick you up when you’re feeling down.
“And afterwards I did end up feeling better – it was like therapy.”
Rebecca’s new album Freedom is out on December 2, and the star will perform its lead single on The X Factor this weekend.
