Sam Smith has been unveiled as the winner of the Brit Awards’ Critics’ Choice prize for 2014. The singer was named last week on the shortlist, alongside Ella Eyre and Chloe Howl.
He has already scored a couple of smash hits, having been the guest vocalist on Disclosure’s ‘Latch’ and the chart-topper ‘La La La’ from Naughty Boy. The star is 21-years-old.
The pressure is on now for him to deliver with his solo material – as he has big shoes to fill. All of the prize’s previous winners have scored No1 albums; most recently the 2013 victor Tom Odell.
Prior to him, winners have included Emeli Sande, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Florence and the Machine and Adele.
Odell will present Smith with his prize at a ceremony in the New Year, at which all the nominees for the main Brit Awards prizes will also be announced.
