The BBC have confirmed that their big-budget drama Ripper Street has been culled after two series.
The show starred Matthew Macfadyen, Adam Rothenberg and MyAnna Buring – and despite insisting they are “proud” of the show, bosses apparently blame dwindling ratings for its cancellation.
Speaking in a statement, a spokesperson said:
“We are very proud of Ripper Street, which has enjoyed two highly ambitious series on BBC One.
“However, the second series didn’t bring the audience we hoped and in order to make room for creative renewal and new ideas, it won’t be returning.”
The cast had certainly seemed interesting in returning for more episodes, with Rothenberg previously saying:
“You could go anywhere with it, absolutely anywhere.”
