Katy Perry has spoken out after she and Lady Gaga released their new singles within hours of each-other earlier this week. The stars go head-to-head in the charts in the USA this week; Perry with ‘Roar’ and Gaga with ‘Applause’. The two were meant to be released one week apart, but Gaga rush-released her effort when it was leaked ahead of schedule.
“It’s all about the music and I really agree with her message,” the brunette singer told AMP Radio. “I’ve always been a fan of hers and I like to see her evolution.

“I think that it’s also nice that we’re all in the same kind of cycle together because it really keeps us both on our toes… It’s not that we feel competition, it’s that we keep each other on each other’s toes and it’s a healthy thing.”
On the US iTunes rankings, ‘Roar’ is currently narrowly ahead of ‘Applause’. While Gaga’s single has generally had a mixed reaction from music fans online, Katy’s has caused a minor backlash due to its striking similarity to a Sara Bareilles song.
