Matt Cardle’s manager is apparently furious that the singer was not included in The X Factor’s new “ultimate mash-up” video. The talent show is 10 years old this year, and to mark the occasion bosses have unveiled a remix that incorporates tracks from several of the series’ best-known stars.
While many successful contestants are puzzingly left out – Diana Vickers and Rebecca Ferguson, to name two – even three of the winners are forgotten, with Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson and Cardle all absent.
A furious Will Talbot told Digital Spy: “It is very disappointing to see Syco, yet again, attempting to erase Matt from the history books. 19 million people tuned in to watch him win (on their most successful series ever).
“Since then, he has been bizarrely blacklisted from appearing on The Xtra Factor, excluded from every video compilation celebrating the show and he now won’t be featured in the X Factor 10th anniversary video which airs tonight.”
He went on: “Since 2010, he has had two top ten albums, one of which went platinum, and his combined single and album sales exceed 2 million units. In light of this, for them to purposely keep excluding one of their winners is undeniably perplexing to say the least.”
The video does incorporate Joe McElderry, who won the 2009 series but parted ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco label shortly afterwards. His fans have applauded The X Factor for putting their soured relationship behind them and including him.
