Miley Cyrus has admitted that she nearly dropped her surname from her professional life; coming close to being known simply as Miley. The ‘We Can’t Stop’ singer apparently wanted to do away with half of her famous moniker so that she could deflect attention from her history with the Disney Channel.
She told Notion:
“I was thinking about dropping the Cyrus and just being Miley but there’s something powerful about the fact that my name now is like a household name.
“People have this misconception of me that I’m just one of these kids on TV and that now I go off and party and I’m just this ratchet white girl, and I’m not.”
She went on:
“I work really, really hard, I’m just in a different environment. I’m young and living in LA, which is everyone’s dream, you know? I’m living it to the fullest. Rather than taking a blessing and making it a curse, it’s just like this is what this name is now.”
Cheryl Cole also recently dropped her surname, entering into her third album campaign as simply Cheryl.
Miley’s ‘We Can’t Stop’ has flown to the top of the UK iTunes chart, and is in good stead to be the country’s Number 1 single next weekend.
