Music mogul Simon Cowell has jokily thanked journalists who have written negative stories about him for helping to inflate his bank balance. He made a surprise appearance at the press launch of season ten of The X Factor in London’s Mayfair today, joining judges Nicole Scherzinger, Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh ahead of the new series’ arrival on Saturday.
He said:
“You’ve slagged us off, written nice things and it’s all been great because you’ve made us loads of money and really successful. So thank you.”
He also spoke in favour of the new panel, saying: “I’m very proud to be part of this show, it felt fresh.
“Once again, I feel like a very proud daddy. I want to thank ITV for all your support and most of all, all you journalists.”
The show returns at 8pm on Saturday and Sunday on ITV1 in the UK, with the US version – on which Cowell is joined by Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio – set to follow three weeks later.
