Ratings for The X Factor’s third episode of its new series slipped a little on Saturday, when it was pitted against the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. The talent show, which is back for its tenth outing, overlapped very briefly with the BBC’s rival ballroom dancing contest, and its viewing figures plunged as a result.
In fact, it had nearly a million viewers less than it did for its comeback episode seven days earlier, with just under 8 million tuning in.
However, the numbers jumped back up again for its Sunday instalment, and were nudged back over the 9 million barrier – peaking at over 10 million.
The format has changed this year – with Saturdays showing the return of the Closed Room tryouts and Sundays boasting the remaining Arena performances. Contestants must succeed at both parts of the audition before proceeding to Boot Camp.
Strictly Come Dancing now takes a three-week break to allow its celebrity contestants to commence training. It will return later in the month.
Its launch show on Saturday achieved the highest ratings for any launch show in its 11-year history. Wow!
