Katy Perry is now the most-followed woman on Twitter, notching up a huge 39.9 million followers. Lady GaGa’s 39.3 million total has officially been overtaken, not long after she was eclipsed by Justin Bieber as the most followed account of all. Bieber, the only person to have more than 40 million followers, is currently on 42.3 million.
However, the fairness of the follower count has been bought into question with all the front-runners, after a report claimed that HALF of Bieber’s are fake – meaning they are following fewer than 50 accounts, have no followers and have never posted a tweet. Both GaGa and Perry were thought to have also had their share of fake ‘fans’, however they were revealed to have far more ‘real’ admirers than robotic.
Both female megastars are gearing up for the release of their third studio albums, after the enormous success of their second. GaGa’s Born This Way shifted millions of copies and paved the way for her gigantic world tour, which made her the highest-earning celebrity under 30. Perry, meanwhile, released Teenage Dream in 2010, and from it she enjoyed seven hit singles.
GaGa has revealed that her new set ARTPOP will be out in November, with the lead single to follow next month. Can she overtake Katy again?
