Selena Gomez is having an incredible 2013, as far as her career is concerned – or at least she was, until reviews for her new movie came in. The former Disney star has already bagged her first US number one album this year, and garnered enthusiastic feedback for her role in outrageous movie Spring Breakers.
However, The Getaway, which opened in cinemas this week, holds only a 1% rating on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, indicating universally negative comments.
The film co-stars Ethan Hawke, and interestingly his other big 2013 project Before Midnight is actually the best-reviewed narrative movie of the year to date, with a huge 98% approal rating.
The Boston Globe said of Getaway:
“It’s hard to remember another action entry that expends so much energy on frenetic blacktop choreography and attention-deficit editing with so little to show for it.”
The 1% rating puts it behind Harrison Ford thriller Paranoia and the star-studded Movie 43, which scored ratings of 3% and 4% respectively.
Never mind, Selena…
