The X Factor USA returned to screens this week – but with viewing figures at an all-time low.
Without the big draw of last year’s signing Britney Spears, the show limped to 6.2 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating among 18-30 year-olds.
Last year’s premiere managed more than 9 million, and the season one premiere in 2011 appealed to more than 12 million.
This year has seen more changes made to the show, with Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio drafted in as replacements for Spears and LA Reid. Simon Cowell remains on the panel, along with last year’s newbie Demi Lovato.
The show has yet to produce any big superstars, either – with only one Top 10 album (from fourth-place act Emblem3) to its name. The highest position a graduate from the show has managed in the singles chart is No76 (Fifth Harmony).
The show will debut in the UK next Friday, September 20, on ITV2. Will you be watching?
