Lorna Simpson has become the first contestant to be knocked out of The X Factor’s live shows this year. The singer, who was mentored by Sharon Osbourne in the Over 25s category, went up against Shelley Simpson in the sing-off, before being voted out by judges Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger. Gary Barlow had opted to send Shelley home.
Shelley was told on Saturday night that she would be facing the chop, as part of the new Flash Vote twist – which sees the phone lines open for 10 minutes only once all acts have performed.
Once Shelley learned that she would have to sing for survival, the lines reopened and closed again on Sunday night, following which Lorna learned that she was also in trouble.
In the sing-off, Shelley sang ‘One Night Only’ from Dreamgirls, while Lorna sang Faith Hill’s ‘There You’ll Be’.
11 acts now remain in the competition, and in the running to land a lucrative recording deal with Syco.
