Demi Lovato opened up earlier this week on her previously undiscussed cocaine and alcohol use, and now she has also talked about her much-documented battle with self-harming.
The X Factor USA judge went into rehab in 2010 for a number of issues, including drug use, bulimia, undiagnosed bipolar and cutting.
Talking to Access Hollywood, she claimed that the issue is “more taboo to talk about than drugs and alcohol.”
She insisted:
“Just because you’re cutting, doesn’t mean you’re suicidal.”
The star admitted that, at first, the act was a “cry for help”, but soon she began cutting in places that people wouldn’t see.
“Sometimes when you are feeling so numb, just by being depressed… you just want to feel,” she revealed.
Demi’s mother, Dianne, sat with her throughout the interview – and admitted that both she and Demi’s grandmother had previously battled issues including eating disorders.
