Despite being widely tipped as the frontrunner, Ian Somerhalder is apparently not even being considered for a role in the 50 Shades of Grey movie. The actor was thought to be an obvious choice to play Christian Grey in the eagerly-awaited adaptation of EL James’ novel, however he allegedly isn’t in the running.
Garrett Hedlund, meanwhile, is thought to have been offered the part but turned it down, on the basis that it is “too big a commitment”, according to Us Weekly. He allegedly only wanted to sign on for one movie, but bosses wanted him to agree to the full franchise. James, meanwhile, is thought to have vetoed Somerhalder, despite the Vampire Diaries star expressing interest.
He had said: “It could be very, very amazing. I have the book and I just started reading it. “That would be a pretty incredible thing, and hopefully that could pan out… Beyond the shadow of a doubt, I think that would be a phenomenal opportunity!”
The record-breaking book series also has yet to cast its female lead, Anastacia Steele. The film is slated for release on August 1, 2014 – so bosses should probably speed up!
