A charitable organisation has blasted Miley Cyrus for her “offensive” use of teddy bears in her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards at the weekend. Cyrus was seen emerging from a giant bear at the beginning of her performance, which has already been hugely criticised for her racy duet with Robin Thicke.
The Teddy Bear Fund charity has called her decision to use the large soft toys in her risque performance as a “poor choice”, telling TMZ:
“Miley made a poor choice to use a universally loved children’s teddy bear in an offensive way.
“There is always good art and bad art – unfortunately… this was bad art. Hopefully she might consider reversing this situation by giving lots of teddy bears to children in need of comfort.”
Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez and Adam Lambert have been three of the only people voicing their support for her, with other famous faces – such as Brooke Shields, *NSYNC’s Chris Kirkpatrick and apparently Kelly Clarkson making it clear that they weren’t keen.
Cyrus was still trending on Twitter today, three days after the ceremony, as debate raged on.
