Former popstar Aaron Carter has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. The singer, who was famed for hits including ‘I Want Candy’ and for being the younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, has allegedly said in legal documents that he has liabilities of around $2,204,854 – which equates to £1,367,860.
TMZ adds that he is now living with a family member and has claimed assets of $8,232 including a mini keyboard, a guitar, two MacBook computers and a speaker.
Carter’s rep, Steve Honig, maintains to the US site that most of the debt was accumulated during his teenage years, and that declaring for bankruptcy will now enable him to move forward with his career.
He said:
“The overwhelming majority of the debt he is asking to be discharged is from more than ten years ago when he was a minor and not in control of his finances.”
