It’s no secret that the hugely successful Avatar film would return for a sequel – but today it has been confirmed that there will in fact be three more entries to the franchise. Yep, James Cameron is apparently set to bring back the blue creatures on numerous occasions between 2016 and 2018.
Avatar 2 will apparently be released in December 2016, with Avatar 3 to follow in December 2017 and Avatar 4 in – you guessed it – December 2018. That does, however, mean that there are still a massive three years to wait until the next film is out.
Filming will reportedly be carried out on all three sequels simultaneously using the same casts, and production is set to begin next year. It’s understandable that bosses will want to reprise the Avatar magic. The first film took $760 million in the US, and a ginormous $2.78 billion worldwide. That makes it the highest-grossing film of all time.
There has been no word on whether Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will reprise their roles for the follow-ups, or if they will focus on entirely new characters.
