JK Rowling made Harry Potter fans’ dreams come true last week when she announced that she was working on a new series of films based on the wizarding world she created.
The movies – based in 1920s New York – will draw inspiration from the fictional text book Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which she released as a companion to the Harry Potter franchise several years ago.
Radcliffe however has confirmed that none of the Potter characters will appear, and that Rowling is effectively starting from scratch elsewhere in the world of magic.
“I first thought, ‘Thanks Jo, I’m going to have to answer tons of questions about this now’,” he joked at a Sky Drama launch today.
“I’m sure they’re going to have a great time [making it]. I’m sure most people are really excited about it.
“Needless to say I wouldn’t be involved in it and I guess none of the others [from the Harry Potter films] will be, but I know absolutely nothing about it.”
JK herself explained:
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.”
