The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is predicted to stay atop the US Box Office chart over this Thanksgiving weekend – despite competition from Disney’s new offering, Frozen.
The second film in Suzanne Collins’ teen thriller series scored the best November opening in history last weekend, and the momentum looks set to continue into its second frame.
The movie, starring Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, is on track to net another $100 million for Wednesday-to-Sunday, according to early estimates.
Frozen, meanwhile, could score a strong $85 million start to come in second place. It’s a fantastic number, and one which would have seen it easily score a No1 hit on many other weekends.
Elsewhere, Thor: The Dark World is reportedly on course to rack up another week in the Top 3, pulling in another $16 million-worth of receipts. It will probably finish ahead of The Best Man Holiday on $12 million, which itself will finish a hairline stronger than Delivery Man.
Homefront, meanwhile – which stars Jason Statham and James Franco – is expected to land with a $9 million haul at Number 6. The Book Thief, Free Birds, Gravity and Last Vegas will probably complete the Top 10.
