Singer Ashanti is the latest in a growing list of celebrities to be accused of homophobia, as fans react to a tweet she posted in response to a troll.
The star was taunted by a follower for the poor performance of her last single, and made a comment in response that many of her supporters have criticised her for.
Ashanti has faced backlash (PR)
Initiating discussion on a major US sports event, she wrote:
“Who y’all got??? Seahawks or 49ers???”, to which someone wrote back: “Your flop single”.
Ashanti hit back:
“don’t be mad at me cause u in the closet… Flop that ya lil bitch lmao!”
She has since been at the centre of some backlash, with one fan writing:
“so is being in the closet something to be made fun of, or taken lightly…? Watch what you say….”
Another warned: ”
I didn’t know u were homophobic like this. Being gay is no laughing matter And I was just rooting for u. Never again”.
