Tributes flood in for Nelson Mandela, dead aged 95

Tributes have been pouring in for the great Nelson Mandela, who has passed away at the age of 95.

The inspirational legend had been struggling with his health for many months, but his final passing earlier today has provoked a phenomenal number of touching messages on social media.

Writing on Twitter, some of the most famous faces on the planet took the time to pay their respects.

Rihanna wrote:

“#NelsonMandela you made your people proud!! We’ll always love you for it!”

“Today the world lost one it’s greatest leaders (sic)”, wrote Eva Longora. “Rest in peace Mandela…”

Jamie Foxx lamented:

“Rest in Peace Mr. Nelson Mandela. A fearless leader, incredible human being, inspiration, a REAL hero. Truly one of a kind. God bless you.”

Samuel L Jackson said :

“Never met a better person in my life than Nelson Mandela. My sympathy to his family & his country”, while actress Olivia Wilde posted: “Oh Mandela, rest in peaceful freedom.”

Ellen DeGeneres, in a tweet that has been reposted nearly 9,000 times, said:

“Today we lost the world’s greatest advocate for peace and change. Nelson Mandela was a hero to so many. Rest in peace.”

William Shatner wrote:

“I hope the great work started by Nelson Mandela continues to spread across the world. He will be remembered as an icon for equality.”
